Staggering numbers. In Italy and around the world. Considering that Attilio Corsini's version alone (who first brought the text here, in 1983) is still in the repertoire and has seen thousands upon thousands of performances. Always accompanied by trunks full of laughter. In short: the success of Michael Frayn 's "Noises Off" continues unabated. Seasons, fashions, and sensibilities change. But a well-written comedy evidently stands the test of time. And continues to speak to the contemporary world. At least in part, mind you. Good for Frayn, a journalist turned playwright. Or vice versa. A London boy born in 1933, much loved also for the more recent "Copenhagen" and for his essay writing. His catchy title, however, remains "Noises Off," a gem of a theater within a theater that always finds new ways to inspire artists and audiences. In this case, The Kitchen Company of Genoa, a company of very young performers directed by Massimo Chiesa . The music is by Monty Python. Indeed. While on stage, the cast includes Daria D'Aloia, Fabrizio Careddu, Mauro D'Amico, Susanna Valtucci, Lidia Castella, Lorenzo Tolusso, Caterina Cottafavi, Fabio Facchini, and Marco Zanutto. An ensemble cast. For "Rumors Off," which opens tomorrow through July 23rd in the Sala Grande del Franco Parenti . A Pirandellian spirit. But much (much) more lighthearted. Given that on stage we witness a sort of homage to the "behind the scenes." A furious and hilarious music box. One that quickly unfolds amidst disastrous rehearsals, rivalries, and romantic intrigues. Always on the verge of losing control of everything.

But then things fall into place. The theater somehow finds its balance. Before losing it again, with yet another tumble. Chasing the personal and professional vicissitudes of a bizarre company. Will our heroes be presentable once again for the curtain call? A declaration of love. For art. For the profession. For a life in a mask that mocks itself. And the entire world.
